Privacy Alert! Google's new privacy policy and how to skip out on it.

So, its already main stream news. Google is putting a new privacy policy in place on March 1st that essentially says “we’re going to use all of your personal information to advertise at you.” Your Google searches will impact your Google+ account, your gmail account will impact what you see on YouTube. Its going to be a real mess, imho.

As IT advisors for our clients, there is one thing that you may want to encourage them to do which will help conceal at least some of the information that Google collects on them. It is possible to disable search history for a Google account. Disabling this will impact how effective Google search is, but it will also keep all of your client’s searches out of Google’s database.

Here is a tutorial on how to go about doing this: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/02/how-remove-your-google-search-history-googles-new-privacy-policy-takes-effect

No matter if you choose to share this tutorial or not, this is a great opportunity to show your value to your clients. Explain the situation and break it down for them so that they can understand what’s going on. Sharing this with them will boost your credibility and show them that you have their best interests in mind.

Good luck!
